Jammu: In the festive season, profiteers are playing with the health of the people. The Food and Drug Administration has found widespread adulteration in foodstuff investigations. In 205 cases taken from different areas of Jammu division in September, 63 have failed.
Adulteration was found in about one-third (31 per cent) of the total cases investigated. In the failed cases, 15 samples are from Jammu district.
According to the information, in view of the possibility of adulteration in the festive season, departmental teams took samples from different areas of Jammu division. The investigation report has been shocking. Nearly every third sample failure has been found. From this, the scale of adulteration can be estimated.
Courts and other samples for unsafe samples are now being referred to the ADC (Executive Officer). Apart from this, 115 samples of milk, cheese, curd, sweets, khoya have been sent from various places to the Food Analyst Public Health Laboratory Jammu for investigation.
At the same time, dozens of samples have been taken up for testing of milk in the festive season in Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Poonch, Doda of the division. Under the FSS Act, Rules and Regulation, 322 kg of substandard milk and 35 kg of spoiled vegetables and fruits were destroyed on the spot in District Doda. In this campaign, the food business operators were instructed to display the list of foods prepared with ghee, vegetable and edible oil.
