10 kg ‘Charas’, currency worth 10 lakh siezed from Trucker

Jammu Police on Monday claimed to have arrested a man after allegedly recovering 10 kilogram cannabis (charas) and Rs 10 lakh in the scrapped denomination notes from his possession.

Police sources said that on specific inputs Gangyal police laid a nakka at Kunjwani Chowk and tried to stop truck bearing no JK05B-0122

“The driver of the vehicle tried to break the naka but was stopped by police,” a spokesperson said.

During the search of the vehicle police recovered 10 kg charas packed in a black bag and currency worth Rs 10 lakh in banned 1000 and 500 notes.

Police has arrested accused the driver identified as Gulzar Ahmed resident of Narbal Tehsil Narbal Distt Budgam Srinagar and registered a case FIR No 137 /16 U/S 8/20NDPS act at PS Gangyal.

“During questioning accused admitted that he has brought the consignment from Anantnag and was to be delivered in Jammu” spokesperson said.

The accused also admitted that he had brought narcotics consignment to Jammu earlier also.
