Amroha, Uttar Pradesh: Once again, the political heartland of India, Uttar Pradesh is in the offputting limelight for the soaring unemployment problems. Not that ‘Safai Karamchari’ jobs are disrespectful to take up but more than 15,000 educated applicants have shown willingness to work as a sweeper.
A notification for candidates willing to apply for the post of Safai Karamchari was released by the Amroha Municipal Corporation (Nagar Palika Amroha), Uttar Pradesh (UP). The profile necessitates cleaning of streets using brooms and maintenance of municipal sewer lines and drainage. The problem behind post graduates applying for the job is highlighted by the fact that there was no educational qualification necessary to apply for the aforementioned jobs.
Almost 19,000 applications from graduate and post graduate candidates have been received for 114 posts and the post offers a salary of Rs 17,000 per month. Educational qualification of applicants ranges from BA, BSc, MA, B.Tech and MBA.
Speaking with TOI, Faiz Alam, Amroha municipality superintendent said, “The process of uploading application forms or all 114 posts is still going on and we have uploaded 5,000 of the 19,000 received. Most are graduates, postgraduates, BTechs and even MBAs.”
However, there have been protests by the Valmiki Organizations and for now the UP government has put the process of selection on hold.
