Poonch, September 12: The Director General of Police, K Rajendra Kumar, while speaking to a section of media informed that 2 militants have been gunned down while more may be inside.
The DGP, who recently got an extension of three months considering the volatile situation in Jammu and Kashmir said, “Two militants have been killed and their dead bodies have been retrieved as well. According to our assessment, two more have been killed but their dead bodies have not been found thus far. It is quite possible that one or two militants may still be alive. The operation is still on at the moment.”
In what has turned out to be the longest encounter in the Jammu Division, the DGP was also asked by media persons about the kind of ammunition being used by the militants to which he answered, “It is difficult to say what ammunition is being used at the moment but it is certain that the militants came prepared for a long gunfight.”
The DGP also informed that a total of four to six militants were expected to have arrived out of which four had been neutralised.
“It is clear so far that the militants had come to disrupt the peace and brotherhood in Poonch right around the big festival of Eid. The militants were likely targetting the vital installations of the Brigade Headquarter and the Police around this building,” the DGP said.
