2 PDD linemen died and officials are not ready to take the blame

Jammu, June 28 : Yet another incident of daily wagers dying due to the insufficiency of the department has flared up as two daily wage employees of the Power Development Department (PDD) were electrocuted while another daily wager received serious burns near the Seri Pandita area that falls under the jurisdiction of the Gharota police station in the district.

The deceased have been identified as Devi Singh, a resident of Marjali village near Kot Bhalwal, and Kewal Krishan, a resident of Kanachak Burj while the injured has been identified as Sanjeev Singh, a resident of Simbalwala.

According to the PDD authorities, the victims were laying a 11-KV transmission line “without making any request for electricity shutdown in the area” when the incident took place.

Chief Engineer, M&RE Wing Jammu, Ashwani Gupta said that the two employees were not officially deputed on the high tension wire and moreover, they made no requests of a power shut down in the area before undertaking the task.

Meanwhile, the local residents said that the trio were working on an electric pole when they came in contact with a live wire and got electrocuted. One of the victims fell from the pole and got severe head injury while other two received critical burns. They were rushed to the nearby hospital in Kot Bhalwal from where they were subsequently shifted to Government Medical College Bakshi Nagar. Two of them were declared as brought dead by the doctors and the third one is currently undergoing treatment in the Hospital and as per the doctors, is critically serious with extensive burns in both his legs.
The PDD officials and the Chief Engineer assured a detailed departmental inquiry has been ordered in which the people responsible for ordering the task will be traced and stern action will be taken against them.
