CRPF Convoy attacked in Kashmir, 7 Jawans injured


SRINAGAR: Seven troopers were injured on Monday when their convoy was fired at by guerrillas in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, police said.

A police official told Media Sources here, “A CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) convoy going from Srinagar to Jammu was fired at by militants at Semthan near Bijbehara town in Anantnag district today (Monday).

“Seven CRPF troopers belonging to 53 and 179 battalion of CRPF were injured in this attack. The area has been cordoned off and the injured have been shifted to sub-district hospital Bijbehara for treatment,” the official added.

The official said reports from the site said the guerrillas were wearing army uniforms when they attacked the CRPF convoy.

The attack comes right after Friday’s gun-battle which took place in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district whcih led to the killing of two militants and an Army Jawan. After the news of heavily armed militants broke in, Security forces launched an anti-militancy operation in Wadder Bala village of Handwara.

Bijbehara militant attack update :

All the 7 injured CRPF personnel were referred to B & J hospital Srinagar from SD Hospital Bijbehara.
The injured are identified as

1. Sanjay Kumar son of Basant Lal:
2.Om Parkash son of Villas Ram.
3. S Gopi Nath son of Shan Bungum.
4. Sabain Naik son of Narayan Naik.
5. Jugdeep Singh son of Bhushan Singh.
6. Gobinder singh son of Madan Singh and
7. Raja Ram son of Chander Pal Singh.
All the injured are said to be from 53 Bn. One.injured has been discharged from hospital.
