219 wards of police martyrs provided scholarships: Rajendra

SRINAGAR, MAY 24: The Director General of Police (DGP) K. Rajendra Kumar has said that Jammu and Kashmir Police has provided scholarships to 219 wards of police martyrs during 2015-16, in order to promote their education.
The DGP was reviewing the welfare measures for the families of martyred cops at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here today. He said that welfare of Jawans and officers is one of the top priorities of the department to infuse fresh energy and boost morale of the force. He said that various new welfare schemes have been introduced to benefit the families of martyrs.
He said that JKP has lost 964 cops. He said about 487 SPOs also contributed in maintaining peace and order, by offering their lives in different parts of the State. He said that the department has taken it as a responsibility to provide succor to the families of martyrs and various schemes have been introduced to offer a helping hand to these families.
Rajendra disclosed that during the year scholarships of more than Rs 15.5 lakh was given to 121 wards studying in different schools including Police Public schools at Srinagar and Jammu. On the occasion, 13 daughters of police martyrs were provided financial assistance for their marriage.
