Do you know how many people have been killed/ injured in clashes since March?


Srinagar, October 13: The Minister Incharge-Home in a written reply to MLC Qaiser Jamsheed Lone on Monday said that around five hundred policemen got injured and three civilians lost their lives in separate clashes and protests since March this year. Also, 43 security forces personal and 41 civilians were also injured during this span of time in the clashes.

The government also stated that around 21 people in state were also arrested under Public Safety Act (PSA) which includes 2 are separatists, 3 stone-pelters, 9 Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of militants, 4 habitual criminals and 3 timber smugglers.

The Minister of Hajj, Auqaf and Horticulture, Abdul Rehman Veeri while replying to the supplementary question by Qaiser Jamsheed Lone said that the release of detainees and revocation of PSAs is an ongoing process and the only solution to decrease the number of clashes is having dialogue with the insurgent.

Veeri while replying to MLC’s question that why several separatists have been placed under house arrest stated that though the Government believes in allowing everyone to propagate his views as “democracy is the battle of ideas” but sometimes it becomes necessary to curtail the movement of separatists in view of apprehensions of law and order disturbances.

Also, PDP MLC Firdous Ahmad Tak in a supplementary question asked regarding the police arresting some youths in “false case” of raising slogans on the behest of Lashkar-eToiba on Eid occasion. He explained that these youths raised anti-Government slogans but then they were booked for raising the slogans at the behest of LeT and it was done only to deny them bail. The MLC urged the government to look into the matter and make sure they get bail.

Another BJP MLC Sofi Yousuf showed concern about the boys from Bijbehara Town of Anantnag district ho were picked up by Gujarat police and it was not revealed why they were picked up. These arrests were confirmed by the minister and he assured that he will look into the matter personally.
