Amid repeated ceasefire violations and heavy cross-border firing with the neighbouring Pakistan, five districts of Jammu alongside the border are on high alert.
While Rajouri and Poonch districts have been affected by Pak firing; an atmosphere of panic prevails Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts amid rising tensions along the international border.
A significant number of people live beside Jammu border with Pakistan than compared to the Line of Control. The security forces are prepared for any circumstance that might happen.
Pakistani Rangers had opened fire across the border in Arnia sector of Jammu district on Friday, 12th May 2017. A BSF guard received minor injuries in this incident.
BSF IG (Jammu sector) Ram Avtar has instructed the border guards to keep vigil at the border after reviewing the security situation. Senior officials told that the situation at the border is normal but the Pakistan cannot be trusted.
On 13th May 2017, two people lost their lives and three others were injured in cross-border firing in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. The administration has already begun the evacuation process in the affected areas for the safety of border-dwellers.
