Jammu, 29 April: According to the reports of the State Government regarding the series of violent episodes in NIT Srinagar, they have identified about 50 non-Kashmiri students and have started the investigation. However, the reports of the NIT campuses own law-keeping body have yet to arrive. The final decision and further proceedings into the matter will start once the both the reports, one prepared by the Government and the other by the College heads.
Meanwhile, the CRPF men that were deployed in the NIT Campus on the 5th of April, have been removed. The police officials have been accused of uploading videos of the turmoil in the campus on social websites. However, about 60 BSF men would still be present in the campus at all times keeping in mind the fragile atmosphere. Even NIT’s own security officials have come forth to take the responsibility. The CRPF would now only secure the campus from the outside.
The dean of Student’s Welfare, Dr. Neelam, said that about 1441 non-local students had left the campus during the violent episodes and on Thursday evening almost 627 of them came back. She also added that whether or not the offenders were to be suspended is something that is not sure.
Speaking on behalf of the security forces of the Institute and condemning the CRPF, Prof. Rajat Gupta, Director of NIT, said that the police officials are not supposed to be capturing videos and later posting them, which would in turn disturb the environment.
