Srinagar, November 18: Seven students studying in the Law Department of Kashmir University have been rusticated by the University authorities on Wednesday after allegedly assaulting a senior faculty member of the University.
As per media reports, some students spotted an unknown person driving rashly in the University campus near the Budshah gate, few days ago. As per students, the driver hit a student and fled the spot. They were not able to identify the driver but later they blamed Prof Nisar Ahmad, Dean, Physical and Material Studies, for the incident.
On November 11, seven residential students of KU studying in Law department barged into the residence of Prof Nisar Ahmad and beat him up following the misinformation.
The university authorities formed a five members committee to look into the matter and they decided to rusticate these seven students for beating up a professor. The committee was headed by the Dean, Academic Affairs, while Dean, Students Welfare; Dean, Engineering Department; Dean, Law Department; and Chief Proctor were its members.
However, these students have rendered an apology saying that the incident was a result of some misinformation provided to them by some people in the university. The students have been called by the Vice Chancellor for a meeting. They are hopeful that the authorities will accept our apology.
As per an official, “Students have been given three days time to come up with a justification following which the committee would take a final call.”
“For now, the students are facing suspension. They attacked a senior faculty member of the university which cannot be tolerated,” added the official.
