90 Kgs of Poppy Straw (Bhukki) detected at Toll Post Lakhanpur
Attempt of Smuggling in the garb of Industrial Goods
Continuing with their drive against smugglers, Today on 18.02.2017 a joint team of the officials of Toll Post Lakhanpur and Police Department Lakhanpur foiled a major smuggling bid when they seized 90 Kgs of Poppy straw being carried outside the State. A vehicle bearing Registration No. PB09X-2075 carried goods (wooden chips) of an Industrial Unit and claimed exemption from payment of Toll on these goods that were consigned by M/s. Classic Popular Works, Gariend, Budgam to M/s. Kuantum Paper Ltd, Shala Khurd Hoshiarpur, Punjab. However, on physical checking of the vehicle, it was found carrying 5 bags of Bhukki alongwith wooden chips. The vehicle alongwith wooden chips and contraband item (Bhukki) has been seized by the Police Station, Lakhanpur for further action under the NDPS Act.
The whole operation was conducted by the joint team headed by Excise & Taxation Officer Mr. Virinder Singh Pawar and SHO Police Station Lakhanpur Mr. Kulbir Choudhary alongwith Excise Inspectors Mr. Anil Kumar, S. Anmolak Singh & Mr. Sanjeev Khajuria, Excise Sub-Inspector Mr. Surinder Bagal, Excise Guard Mr. Sham Lal and the team of Police Station Lakhanpur. In this regard a case FIR No. 19/2017 u/s 8/15/18NDPS has been lodged in Police Station Lakhanpur.
The Senior Sudpt. Of Police, Kathua Sh. Pawan Parihar and The Deputy Excise Commissioner, Toll Post Lakhanpur Sh. Rajesh Sharma and appreciated the efforts of the respective staff in detecting the instant contraband items and enjoined upon them to work with more zeal and in coordination with different departments / agencies.
