Srinagar, March 28: With PDP president Mehbooba Mufti likely to take oath as the first woman Chief Minister of the state in the first week of April, the swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to be a low-key affair.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was present during the oath-taking ceremony of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in March last year, will not be present this time, instead Home Minister Rajnath Singh will be representing Union Government at the function.
Arun Gupta, state BJP spokesperson said that PM Modi is very busy with Assam elections and is unlikely to attend the swearing-in ceremony in Jammu.
When Mufti was sworn-in as Chief Minister in March last year, top BJP leaders, including PM Modi, national president Amit Shah, former party chief Lal Krishan Advani, former Union minister Murli Manohar Joshi, MoS in PMO Jitendra Singh and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar were present.
On March 22, Mehbooba met Modi in New Delhi and termed talks on government formation with the Prime Minister as “positive.”
Following the meeting, she held a party legislators’ meeting and announced the decision to alliance with the BJP over the formation of the government.
