Aerial firing, shelling in Shalteng against protestors

Srinagar, June 10: The Jammu and Kashmir Police resorted to aerial firing and tear gas shelling against protestors in Shalteng area of Srinagar which is witnessing a complete shutdown in lieu of locals demanding re-arrest of a driver who was allegedly released by police yesterday.

Locals allge that the driver is involved in the death of a local student.

“A few days ago, a local student was killed in a road accident and the erring driver was arrested by police,” said a local.

The locals, however, alleged that the driver had now been released.

“We had just one demand, to re-arrest the driver,” said the locals said further alleging that the police had not taken any action.

The deceased has been identified as Arshida Yusuf who was a student at Tahira Khanam’s Institute in Lawaypora. She was hit by a Sumo when she was on way home from her college.
