Amarnath Yatris pray for peace in the valley


Jammu, 09 July: Amarnath Yatra was suspended and no pilgrim was on Saturday allowed to move from Jammu city to perform the Amarnath Yatra following the tension in Kashmir valley. However, the Yatra of the pilgrims who reached Srinagar Yesterday is moving smoothly from base camps at Pahalgam and Baltal according to sources in Srinagar.

A U4UVoice team reached the Bhagwati Nagar Amarnath Pilgrim Camp to find out the mood of the yatris who are not being allowed to move further because of security reasons.

The Yatris were in a jovial mood and looked at ease where Smita from UP said, “We do not mind staying here for two or three days considering the attacks in Kashmir. The arrangement by the authorities is great considering the huge rush of people who have poured in.”

Manik Tripathi who belongs to Madhya Pradesh added, “We have full faith in our security agencies. Though someone died, we pray for peace in the valley and wish that things return to normalcy in the paradise on earth. Everyone wants to live in peace, just some rogue elements brainwash the vulnerable youth and destroy their lives.”

“No yatri was allowed to move from Bhagawati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu city towards the valley due to prevailing tension following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani,” a senior police official told U4UVoice in Jammu.

“The situation will be reviewed later. Till then the Amarnath Yatra shall remain suspended.”

The annual Amarnath Yatra was proceeding normally so far and over 80,000 pilgrims have had ‘darshan’ of the ‘Lingam’ inside the cave shrine in kashmir Himalayas.

Situated at 3,888 metres above the sea level, the cave shrine houses an ice stalagmite structure that wanes and waxes with the phases of the moon.
