AIJAZ-9DHARMARI (GOOL): Terming the amendments in Panchayati Raj Act by the state cabinet as a landmark decision, Minister of State for Revenue, Relief & Rehabilitation Mr. Ajaz Ahmad Khan hoped that the move would further strengthen and consolidate grass root governance in the state.
Addressing a largely attended public meeting here today, the Minister said with the adoption of these amendments, the service delivery by Panchayats would get a further boost.
He said introduction of Panchayati Raj system in the state is the biggest achievement of the present government. He said elections were held peacefully, powers of 14 line departments were transferred to Panchayats and now with the adoption of these amendments, the Panchayati Raj system in the state has been consolidated and strengthened to play a pivotal role. He complimented the state and central leadership for the decision.
Responding to the compliments of people on creation of new administrative units in the state, the Minister said that these units were created to meet the developmental needs of the areas adding that this would help to bring the administration closer to the people especially those of far flung and hilly areas .
Mr. Ajaz said the present government has been conscious of the aspirations and problems of the people and is taking adequate steps to address them. He said the road connectivity in the state has been revolutionized and in sectors like Health, Education, Social Welfare, Rural Development the state has seen massive growth.
Mr. Ajaz asked people to remain vigilant against the nefarious design of vested elements who are hell bent on derailing the developmental process in the state.
Earlier, on his arrival here, the Minister was accorded a rousing reception by the people. He was taken to the venue in a procession in which people were rejoicing the creation of new administrative units in the state.
