Animal husbandry Department organises a 1 day conference on ‘’ FRAMING A SOUND BREEDING POLICY”


The conference was inaugurated by Dr. S.K. Abrol, Director AHD; Dr. A. K. Magotra , CEO LSDB (J) in the presence of Dr. R. L. Handoo Ex-Director, AHD & also first Manager of Frozen Semen Bank, Jammu. A large number of retired Senior Paravets  still working in the field and contributing actively to the Breeding activity were present. Good number of Private A.I. workers were also present.

Dr. D. S. Bindra, Sr. Veterinarian &   Dr. P. N. Koul   Ex- LiveStock Development officer Jammu gave a brief about the breeding status of Jammu District, present scenario and what is required for future.

Post lunch session was chaired by Dr. K.S. Risam, Director Extension, SKUAST-J and an Animal Geneticist of National  repute who described the fundamentals of a sound breeding policy. He stressed the need to limitize the blood level upto 62.5% only & explained the reasons behind infertility & ectoparastic infections in high level cross breed animals.

Stress was also laid on spread of Sahiwal germplasm in indigenous animals especially in hilly tracts.

Senior Vets. Involved actively  in breeding activity from other Districts viz Poonch, Samba, Rajouri, Kathua, Kishtwar etc also participated.

The conference was organized by Manager, Frozen Semen Bank Jammu Dr. Ramesh Razdan; under the banner of LIVESTOCK DEVELOPMENT BOARD; who thanked one & all.
