JAMMU: The mysterious murder of the AMT vice principal Anita Suri, 58, found brutally killed in her staff quarter at Reshamgarh has finally been solved and her nephew has been arrested for the crime.
The murder mystery of the woman teacher and the vice principal of Ancillary Medical Training (AMT) School had hit the headlines, raising questions on the safety of women in Jammu and had put JKP under the scanner.
The police had constituted a nine-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to crack the murder case.
The cops had been working on various angles and got the lead while scanning the Call Detail Reports (CDRs) of the relatives of the deceased woman.
The police zeroed in on one Piyush, the nephew of the deceased woman. The accused has confessed his crime before police. “Her nephew finally broke down to sustained police questioning and admitted his crime,” a senior police officer told Media Sources.
For Piyush, a businessman, her paternal aunt (“bua”) was an eye sore as she was asking his family to return Rs 30 lakhs she had lent them for starting his business.
Piyush was reluctant to pay back Rs 30 lakhs he had taken from his aunt to start his business following which the relation between her and her brother’s family had strained.
The murder was committed in a very well-planned manner as Piyush knew that her son was out on May 23.
“It is not feasible to comment on the case as police investigation is in progress,” said SSP Jammu Sunil Gupta when contacted while adding that more arrests are likely in the case.
Police sources said that Piyush entered his aunt’s residence at Reshamgarh Colony on May 23 late night. After some verbal bat, he hit her on the head with a sharp-edged weapon and fled leaving her in a pool of blood.
“The tower location of the mobile phone of Piyush indicated his involvement in crime. He confessed his crime during questioning,” said a senior police officer.
Piyush’s father had taken Rs 30 lakhs from his sister, the AMT vice principal, after she got the money following the death of her husband Vinod Gandotra, a principal of a Government School. Gandotra died of kidney failure.
Police said the conspiracy to kill the woman was hatched on May 27 when she had invited her relatives on the occasion of house warming.
“The daughter of the deceased woman is doing BDS from Dehradun. Piyush committed the crime on May 23 as he knew that her son, who is idle after doing engineering, was out on that particular night,” said police.
Ancillary Medical Training (AMT) School, Jammu, faculty member Anita Suri, 58, widow of late Vinod Gandotra, a resident of Quarter No 12, Reshamghar Colony, Jammu, was found murdered at her residence when her son returned home in the morning and found her in a pool of blood.
