Another lynching: Kerala tribal youth beaten to death by lynch mob
Palakkad (Kerala): A tribal youth residing at a colony in Attappadi died after he was allegedly thrashed by a mob on suspicion of theft on Thursday afternoon. Agali police said Madhu, 27, of Kadukumannu tribal colony in Attappadi, was spotted near the forest near his house on Thursday by the public.
After catching hold of him, the mob severely trashed him and then handed him over to the police. The police who found that he was unwell as he vomited rushed him to Agali government Hospital. However, he fell unconscious even before reaching the hospital. Police officials in Agali said they were in search of seven men.
The local tribal community is up in arms and has demanded that if the people behind the incident were not arrested, they would launch a protest.
State Minister of SC/ST, A.K.Balan told the media: “Those who did it claim that this youth was a thief, but that’s their allegation. The state government will act very strongly and none who have done this would be spared.”
State Police chief Loknath Behra said that he had handed over the case to Thrissur Inspector General of Police and “everyone who had done this would be brought to book”.
The body will be taken for an autopsy at the Thrissur Medical College hospital.
