A defence ministry spokesperson said a request was received from civilian authorities on May 15 that two women Salima Begum, a resident of gujran and Rukhsana Begum, resident of Dawar near the Line of Control (LoC) in Gurez have developed serious pregnancy related complications and necessitated immediate medical help.
As the area is totally isolated due to continuous bad weather, the helpless family members approached the Army authorities for evacuation.
Army responded immediately and quickly coordinated the availability of helicopter. Both the women were later airlifted to Bandipora for treatment.
A large number of ill and pregnant women have been airlifted from cut off areas during this winter by Army and Indian Air Force.
