Dr Vijay Kumar, the Sarpanch of village Lam rushed to the only benefactor and the help he knew in his hour of need. He went to the nearest Army camp he was sure who would help him out of the request he was carrying. As soon as he was told of a terrible tragedy happening wherein a joyous celebrations were fast turning into a deathly howl of grief. A bus which was caring a marriage party had fallen into the nala.
Rashtriya Rifles Battalion based at Jhangar under the aegis of Rashtriya Rifles Force Head Quarters, Reasi immediately launched a quick reaction team to assist the civil administration in their efforts to recover a bus fallen in the Gambir River.
The team equipped with adequate stores, medicine, food and clothing rushed to the spot where the bus was drowned in the surging waters of Gambir River. The action to recover the vehicles with the persons still trapped inside was boosted by the technical and manpower support provided by the Rashtriya Rifles personnels.
Dr Vijay Kumar is one of the many Sarpanches of the area who always know whom to go to in times of distress and they have always gone back happy, however not in this instant case. He quietly went to the condolence meeting, knowing fully well that more tragedy was averted but for timely action by the Army.
