Jammu, Jan 15: Indian Army celebrated its 68th Army Day on 15th January 2016. On the solemn occasion, a multihued ceremony was organized at Balidan Stambh Jammu and Tiger War Memorial. Wreaths were placed at eternal flame by Major General Sanjeev Narain, General Officer Commanding, 26 Infantry Division. The Military Bugles sounded in consonance with the military band and added to the gaiety of the ceremony.
Army Day is celebrated on 15 January every year to pay homage to the valour and courage of brave Indian Soldiers who sacrificed their lives in protecting and upholding the territorial integrity and sanctity of the nation. The day also marks the beginning of reign of Indian Army, wherein the first Indian Army Chief General Cariappa OBE succeeded the British Army General Roy Butcher. Balidan Stambh is a war memorial epitomizing the fallen soldiers of Army, Para Military Forces and Police in upholding the sanctity of the Country.
