Army Initiates Welfare Festival “SUKOON” for the local Youth of South Kashmir
Anantnag, May 15: Army, in its endeavor to connect army and locals, initiates the first of its kind three days festival under the name “SUKOON” at Army Goodwill Public School Lidru (Pahalgam) from 15 May to 17 May 2015, under the aegis of Chinar Corps.
The event was kick started with its run to fun event “WALKATHON” early morning today, encouraging the people to walk for a healthy future. The event was open to all and was aimed at motivating maximum participants in terms of students, teachers and tourists and was not restricted to any age group. In this 3 km walk, the participants started at the circuit road start point and culminated the walk at Pahalgam market location.
The chief guest was Maj Gen Arvind Dutta, GOC, victor Force, inaugurated the event “SUKOON” at circuit road Pahalgam. Post inauguration, painting and drawing competitions were conducted at AGPS complex. The competition was among 20 local schools from south Kashmir wherein total 120 students participated.
The day also witnessed a show by a talented local musical troupe from Srinagar who performed for the enthusiastic crowd and showcased their talent keeping in mind the culture and heritage of the valley. Stalls from Hospitality, Banking, Handicraft and Tourism industries were also open to all from 9 AM to 8 PM. The Pahalgam festival, “SUKOON” which has commenced today will last till 17 May wherein number of activities for the welfare of local people will be organised such as Blood Donation Camp, Medical cum Veterinary Camp, cultural and entertainment programmes and large number of activities for school children and the youth.
“SUKOON” will provide a platform for young and budding children to show their skills and will be an event to be remembered by all.
