Army organises Half Marathon in Jammu and Kashmir


REASI: With an aim to bring in communal harmony and to inculcate sportsmanship and healthy living amongst the youth of Reasi district, a Half Marathon was organised by Indian Army at Sports Stadium, Reasi.

The event was part of the Army’s efforts to promote positive youth development through sports and provide a platform to showcase the hidden talent of local youth.A total of 120 youth participated in the Half Marathon displaying exceptional sportsmanship, enthusiasm and vigour.

The event witnessed an over whelming response both in terms of participation and spectators who had lined up all along the 19.5 kilometers stretch of the marathon. Maj General Arvind Bhatia, General Officer Commanding Uniform Force was the chief guest for the closing ceremony.

Eminent personalities from the local administration of District Reasi and officers of Army were also present to boost the morale of the enthusiastic marathoners. GOC Uniform Force felicitated and awarded prizes to the winners.

The champion runner Narinder Singh was awarded a Trophy, cash prize and a certificate. The second position was bagged by Md Ashlam followed by the third position winners, Md Rafi and Mangal Singh. The first 20 runners were also awarded medals and certificates.

The General Officer expressed his happiness on the enthusiasm shown by all the runners. He also complimented the locals for providing a helping hand in smooth and successful conduct of the event.
