Army trooper killed in Kupwara gun fight
Srinagar July 11: A soldier was killed on Monday along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district when the army battled guerrillas who tried to sneak in from Pakistan.
Defence ministry sources told media persons here that a group of heavily armed terrorists tried to breach the Line of Control (LoC) to sneak into India in Keran sector, triggering a fierce battle.
“A soldier has been martyred in the ongoing operation,” an official said. “The infiltration bid has been foiled.”
Srinagar : An Army trooper was killed in a gun fight near Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
A senior Border Security Force (BSF) officer said that Army’s 1/3 GR and 100 battalion BSF who are manning the fence at 3 BEHAK forest area near Jumgund in Keran Sector intercepted heavily armed group of militants last night at around 12:30 Am.
“ After being challenged the group of militants believed to be infiltrators in the area, opened fire resulted into an encounter” , he said.
Meanwhile official sources said that in the insuing gun fight an army trooper identified as Naik Arun Kumar Rai sustained serious bullet injuries and was immediately evacuated to military hospital in the frontier district.
However injured the Kumar latter succumbed to injuries, they said.
