NEW DELHI: Husband of the 34-year-old woman, who was shot dead in her car by unidentified assailants, has been arrested in the case.
Priya Mehra, the victim, was shot twice, in the head and cheek, while her husband Pankaj Mehra and son suffered minor injuries when unknown men allegedly forced the vehicle to stop near Rohini in northwest Delhi and shot at them.
Finally on sustained interrogation, husband Pankaj Mehra has finally confessed to killing his wife Priya Mehra. He is being taken along with the police team to recover the weapon.
During an interrogation, Pankaj confessed to killing his wife, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Milind Dumbere said.
The police said that Pankaj thought he would be able to mislead them by claiming that the killing was the handiwork of some moneylenders who had been threatening him.
Pankaj was married to another woman despite being married to Priya. He was inclined towards his other wife and thought of eliminating Priya, they said.
The police have taken him into custody to find the weapon he used to kill his wife. The police had earlier suspected involvement of Pankaj Mehra in the crime.
Police had yesterday said that they were currently relying on the husband’s version of the attack although it had some inconsistencies.
Mehra owned two restaurants, one in Paharganj (which closed down recently) and the other in Hudson Lane near GTB Nagar, but was neck-deep in debt as the businesses had incurred heavy losses of late.
