Bakshi Nagar Road blocked; locals allege fake arrest by police
Jammu, September 16: The locals of Bakshi Nagar blocked the road behind Government Medical College Jammu, near Vishal Mega Mart today evening. A team from Bakshi Nagar Police station was trying to negotiate with the protesters appealing for them to calm down at the time of reporting.
The protesters, who blocked the road for almost an hour, alleged that the police had made a fake arrest in an accident case simply to shut matters down and save the culprit belonging to an influential family.
According to a protester who did not wish to be named, “About 18 days back a local youth, Amarjeet Singh, was hit by another person near the Super Specialty hospital. Amarjeet was riding a sccoter when he was hit. Since the injuries received by Singh were serious, he was referred to Katra Hospital where he was getting treatment for the last two weeks.”
The protester added, “Amarjeet breathed his last today in the hospital there and the family members who were busy attending to him sought after the police if they had found and arrested the person who had hit Amarjeet. A police party today arrested a wrong person and this is why we have blocked the road here protesting against the police with an appeal that the actual culprit be arrested.”
The person then alleged, “Both the persons, the victim as well as the culprit were hurt in the accident and both had been taken to the hospital. The name of the culprit on the hospital card is different and the person arrested today is different. We demand that the actual person be arrested and the SHO Bakshi Nagar be transferred because he has deliberately tried to save the culprit.”
