Man beaten to death over a slight tiff; resident in Bani protest
JAMMU, Dec 10: A man was allegedly murdered by three persons including a couple at Tappar village of Bani in Kathua district, last evening.
However, the family members of the deceased refused to accept the body till arrest of all three culprits and they staged noisy protest against police.
Police said that Sham Lal, son of Shoba Ram of Tappar alongwith his daughter went to purchase rice Thursday evening and while the duo was returning, his neighbourer identified as Naresh Kumar, son of Nanku called him. He asked his daughter to go home and Sham Lal to his house. He had a tiff over some issue in the house of Naresh Kumar where Naresh Kumar along with his wife Shrishta Devi and his relative alleged attacked Sham Lal and inflicted serious injuries to him.
The victim started screaming after which the villagers rushed to the house of Naresh Kumar. They found Sham Lal in a pool of blood and they shifted him to nearby Dispensary from where after first aid, he was referred to Sub District hospital (SDH) Basholi. On the way he succumbed to his wounds and he was pronounced as brought dead by the doctors at SDH Basholi.
Police took custody of the body last night and today autopsy was carried out by the doctors. The family members refused to take the body demanding arrest of all three culprits first. The family members alongwith relatives started protest against police outside the hospital.
Senior police officers rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the protestors. They informed the protestors that murder case has been registered against all three people involved in the crime and two of them have been arrested.
However, the protestors remain adamant and demanded arrest of third culprit also. Police immediately swung into action but failed to arrest third accused.
