BCCI legitimizes Ansari led faction of JKCA; big jolt to Dr. Farooq
Srinagar, September 21: In what has come as a big shocker to the Former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdulllah led faction of the Jammu Kashmir Cricket Association, the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) has legitimized the faction being led by Imran Ansari.
As reported by a local daily, the BCCI has sent a letter to the association announcing Ansari’s faction a legitimate one and has allowed it to take part in national level cricket tournaments. As per sources, this event has left the section under the leadership of Dr. Farooq Abdullah in turmoil. Dr. Abdullah was re-elected as JKCA President for a three-year term in May 2014.
In recently held elections in the association, 42 out of 64 members voted removal of Abdullah’s chairmanship of the cricket body. Farooq Abdullah’s reign in JKCA began in 1980. In the election held in 2014, he called Ansari’s election as “illegal and unconstitutional”, saying he still had nearly two years left in his tenure, the verdict of the BCCI is likely to have an impact over the ongoing tussle between the two factions.
It is pertinent to mention here that in a scam surfaced in March 2012 for misappropriation of Rs 113.66 crore received from BCCI between April 2002 and December 2011, Dr Farooq Abdullah had faced FIR No 27/2012 under Sections 406, 168 and 120-B of the RPC for illegal swindling of money for his own purposes. The BCCI has for now stopped funding JKCA which affecting the sportspersons of the state. The investigation of this scam is still going on.
