Majority of the movies made in India are meant for entertainment of the audience, and there are few films if any which have a social message aimed to bring about a positive change in the society. Boothnath Returns starring Amitabh Bachchan is an exception in the sense that this film strongly carries the message of the importance of voting in a democracy like ours which needs change from the bottom, and where participation of voters is very important to ensure democracy remains alive and kicking at the grass roots level.
Movie manage to showcase every possible aspect of what’s wrong with today’s youth and why are wrong people elected. They manage to show us why corruption still prevails in our country. At one point in the movie Bachchan Saab says:
The need of the hour now is for the state governments to understand that this movie has a strong social message, and needs to be supported. Across the country there is growing clamor that Boothnath Returns should be given tax free status so that more and more people can go and see the movie. Showing this movie people will also make them aware about their rights as voters, how to get the crucial documents like a voter ID card. They will also realize that treating the polling day as a holiday can have disastrous effects on their lives for the next five years as an undeserving candidate could win putting their future in jeopardy. With election season on, and great deal of work already being done by the election commission of India to make the people aware of voting it is important that subtle, and dry humour of this Bollywood movie featuring the greatest star of Indian cinema Amitabh Bachchan is shown to people as this will strengthen the roots of democracy.
The movie director Director Nitesh Tiwari has beautifully couched his message in beautiful language using both the children, and the adults to depict the plight of common man in the country. While the movie is light in the first half, the serious of message of importance of voting and actively participating in the electoral democracy is delivered after interval. At a time when the nation is on the verge of electing the new government, it would be a positive step if this movie is given tax free status as it will greatly help in making a large number of voters aware at a very crucial time. And this is also easier as Indians have great love for Bollywood movies, and get influenced by actors like Amitabh Bachchan who are great icons for the people of this nation.
