Jammu, September 28: Speaker Kavinder Gupta is all set to break hearts of opposition and political pundits who are expecting a heated debate on the beef controversy in upcoming autumn session of the Legislative Assembly.
As per reports, Speaker of legislative assembly Kavinder Gupta has decided to reject the Bill which seek revocation of the ban on bovine slaughter. The bill seeking omission of Sections 298-A, 298-B, 298-C and 298-D of the Ranbir Penal Code to revoke the ban of beef was moved in the assembly by National Conference and lone CPM member MY Tarigami on Sept 16 and 18 respectively.
The Speaker had already dropped many hints at not admitting the controversial bill. Four days back, the Speaker made it clear that his priority was to maintain communal harmony, brotherhood and peace in all three regions of the state. He had further stated that no one would be allowed to create a communal divide in the state.
The speaker who was in Jammu last week is likely to reach Srinagar by now. Today, he will review preparations for the forthcoming autumn session of the Assembly and will finalise business calendar for proceedings of the Assembly.
Sources said that the bill seeking revocation of beef ban was not incorporated in the already prepared business calendar. There is going to be a customary meeting of all parties before commencement of the session which will be headed by Speaker. The speaker is likely to make an official announcement to reject the bill in this meeting.
