Senior Advocate and prominent social activist M.K. Bhardwaj today called upon Deputy Commissioner Jammu. While leading a deputation of farmers and agriculturist from Bishnah constituency, he impressed upon the Deputy Commissioner for the immediate demand of farmers and agriculturist for providing water for the ongoing rabi season. He apprised the Deputy Commissioner of the hardships being faced by farmers and agriculturist. Mr. Bhardwaj further added that due to weak monsoon and shortfall of rains the entire Bishnah constituency is deprived of water for irrigation which would eventually lead to decrease in production for the farmers and agriculturist.
The Canal and distributaries providing water to the fields should be cleaned and the authorities should immediately undertake an exercise to remove silt and weeds from the canals and distributaries. The delegation also asked that water should be distributed to all villages without any discrimination as per the sanctioned quantity and standard yardsticks already fixed in this regard by the Irrigation & Flood Control and Revenue Departments and there should be fair and just distribution of water to all farmers and agriculturist of Bishnah Constituency. Deputy Commissioner Ajit Sahu issued instructions for immediate cleaning of canals and has assured that adequate water shall be provided to farmers and agriculturist of all parts of Bishnah Constituency.
