BJP government slashed educational budget by Rs. 14088.59 crore: Congress

Jammu, May 24: Questioning the BJP government for slashing educational budget by Rs. 14088.59 crore and abolishing the schemes for granting central assistance for setting up of 6000 Model Schools at Block levels in the country, the Congress has accused the Modi government of shattering the educational edifice and playing with future of younger generations.

AICC Spokesperson and President All India Mahila Congress, Shoba Ohja,disclosed in a Press Conference at PCC Headquarters, Shaheedi Chowk, here today that BJP government has slashed the educational budget to the tune of Rs. 14088.59 crore, besides abolishing the scheme for granting central assistance for setting up of  6000 Model Schools at block level in the country. She said elementary education budget has been reduced by Rs. 10186 crores, Secondary education by Rs. 1422 crore and Higher Education reduced by Rs. 1479 crores.

She said that the gains of literacy, talent and skill made by India in six decades are being frittered away by the present government and the one year of the Modi government  has shown that its educational policy lacks vision and instead of solidifying the well established educational structure of India, this government is working to demolish institutions of prestige and is playing with future of our young generation.

She questioned the fate of country’s educational structure when Union HRD Minister herself is found to have filed to conflicting affidavits to the Election Commission of India (ECI) about her educational status.

Senior Vice President PCC Sham Lal Sharma, Ravinder Sharma-Chief Spokesman, President PCC, Kanta Bhan and President JK Mahila Congress, Indu Pawar were present on the occasion.
