BJP remembers Pt. Deendayal Upadhayaya
On the 98th birth anniversary of Bharatiya Jana Sangh ideologue Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhayaya, falling on September 25, 2014, BJP organized a number of programmes in different parts of the state to recall and recapitulate his rich legacy and ideology.
At party headquarters at Jammu, BJP State President & MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, State General Secretary (Org.) Ashok Kaul and other leaders recalled his dedication and struggle for the upliftment of the people of the country and threw light on his life.
Jugal Kishore Sharma said that Pt. Deendayal Upadhayaya was an ardent nationalist philosopher, economist, sociologist, historian, journalist, and political activist. He was an iconic leader of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh. A revered icon of Integral Humanism, he was an ideologue and a guiding force for an alternative model of governance and politics. He conceived the political philosophy Integral Humanism –the guiding philosophy of the BJP. The philosophy of Integral Humanism advocates the simultaneous and integrated program of the body, mind and intellect and soul of each human being. His philosophy of Integral Humanism, which is a synthesis of the materialism and spiritualism, the individual and the collective, bears eloquent testimony to his genius. In the field of politics and economics, he was pragmatic and down to earth. He visualized for India a decentralized polity and self-reliant economy with the village as the base.
Ashok Kaul said that Deendayal believed in a constructive approach. He exhorted his followers to co-operate with the government when it was right and fearlessly oppose when it erred. He believe in Swaraj (self governance) which was campaigned by BJP till end of last century. He placed nation’s interest above everything else. He died in mysterious circumstances and was found dead on 11 February 1968 at Mughal Sarai Railway yard. The following rousing call he gave to the thousands of delegates in the Calicut session, still rings in their ears, he said and added that the struggle full life of Upadhayaya ji can prove to be a source of inspiration for the younger generations.
