BJP state chief’s son arrested for stalking IAS officer’s daughter

CHANDIGARH, Aug 05 : Vikas Barala, son of Haryana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief, Subhash Barala, has been arrested by the Chandigarh police for stalking a woman. Vikas Barala was arrested along with his friend, Ashish Kumar, after the girl called up the police control room late Friday night.

According to sources, the girl, said to be daughter of an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, was on her way from Sector 9 in Chandigarh to Panchkula around 12:30 am when a Tata Safari started following her from near Sector 26.

The accused were arrested from the housing board light point, Manimjara, bordering Panchkula district of Haryana. Both the accused were found drunk, as per police.

The Chandigarh police have registered an FIR under Section 354 D (stalking a woman) of the Indian Penal Code and 185 of Motor Vehicle Act (driving by a drunken person).

In the medical examination conducted later, they were found drunk. BJP chief’s son is said to be a law student at a Kurukshetra college, while Ashish is a law graduate.

Subhash Barala is the state BJP president and MLA from Tohana in Fatehabad. A Jat leader, he was appointed BJP chief in November 2014, months after the party formed the government on its own in Haryana, for the first time.
