JAMMU, June 20: Call it incompetency, laziness or worse yet a combination of both, BOPEE has managed to show that there are worse lows that can be achieved.
The Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE) completely failed in publishing the schedule for admissions counselling schedule at requisite platforms and this act led to a number of meritorious candidates not getting admission in the Engineering Colleges and course of their choice.
The counselling for admission to engineering courses was set to begin from June 17, except the schedule was not advertised in the leading newspapers.
Then there was a four-day ban of internet services in Jammu due to which the BOPEE website could not be accessed by students either.
A number of students and their parents were informed at the centre of counselling at Bahu Plaza that they had missed their date for counselling which meant that neither they could get the college nor the course of their choice.
“A sizeable number of meritorious students have not been able to secure admission at the government colleges for no fault of theirs,” said the father of a student who features among toppers while speaking to U4UVoice.
“BOPEE needs to be brought to task for its non-seriousness. Whether there was a ban on internet is secondary. They should have still notified in leading newspapers. How am I to pay fees in a private institution?” asked the aggrieved father.
On June 17, the students falling in the range of Rank 1-400 were to be counselled and there are a few who did not eve know the date. The students and their families have approached the government to look into the matter and issue instructions for corrective measures to BOPEE such that students do not have to suffer.
