Anantnag: A paramilitary CRPF sub-inspector was injured after militants ambushed a CRPF road-opening party along the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, here in Mir Bazar area of Anantnag district on Saturday.
The injured Sub-Inspector, Anwar Ali, has been shot in the right arm. He is stable and has been shifted to army’s base hospital in Srinagar.
According to police reports, the militants struck at about 6:30 PM near Malpora village of Mir Bazar.
“It was a Road Opening Party (ROP) of the CRPF which came under attack,” a senior police official from Anantnag told Kashmir Reader.
He said that the militants fired indiscriminately and fled the spot soon after.
Ali was shifted to Anantnag district hospital and after first-aid to army base hospital.
“He is absolutely fine and is receiving treatment right now,” spokesperson of the CRPF, Rajesh Yadav, told Kashmir Reader.
The area has been cordoned off and searches are being carried out to try and nab the attackers.
Traffic has resumed on the NH following a brief halt in wake of the shootout.
