The conspiracy to kill senior journalist Shujaat Bukhari in Srinagar on June 14 was hatched in Kashmir, said the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday as it released photographs of four suspects.
The terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba hatched the conspiracy, said SP, IGP of Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Addressing a press conference, IGP Kashmir SP Pani said that this terror crime was done by Lashkar-e-Taiba and the conspiracy was hatched in Pakistan. He also added, “Sajad Gul now based in Pakistan, Azad Ahmed Malik, LeT oeprative from anantnag district, Muzafar Ahmad bhat, LeT, Naveed Jatt have been identified in Shujaat Bukhari murder case”.
The IGP Kashmir also said that the murder was a result of a malicious social media campaign. “We have tangible evidence to establish that the conspiracy was done from Pakistan. LeT conspiracy comes in picture because of the person Sajad Gul. He is currently in Pakistan. He was earlier arrested in 2016 from Kashmir. He obtained a passport fraudulently and left the country in March 2017. He is behind the conspiracy and created those write ups and blogs.”
Bukhari was killed on June 14 by three men outside his office in Srinagar’s press enclave. Two of Bukhari’s PSOs were also killed in the attack.
The development comes two days after a senior police official of Jammu and Kashmir said that Shujaat, the editor of Rising Kashmir, was gunned down by terrorists on instructions from across the border.
Earlier, it was reported that Hurriyat, Pakistan’s ISI and LeT may be behind Bukhari’s killing as the latter had refused to back their opposition of the “Ramzan ceasefire” and peace talks in the Valley.
