Budgam encounter ends; one terrorist gunned down


Srinagar, Mar 27: Jammu and Kashmir: Budgam Encounter ends, one terrorist has been gunned down by security forces, and an army jawan is suffering injuries.

Two people were killed and 17 others were wounded after an encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in Chadoora area in Jammu & Kashmir’s Budgam district early on Tuesday morning.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Durbagh locality in Chadoora area following information about the presence of terrorists, a police official said.

“The search operation turned into a gunbattle after militants opened fire on security forces,” the official said, adding that the exchange of firing was going on when last reports came in.

The fatality occurred when stone-pelting protesters gathered near the site of the encounter and tried to disrupt the operation, which led to the security forces taking action against them. A protestor was hit by a bullet in the neck and succumbed to his injuries on the way to a hospital, the police official said.

On Sunday, two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were killed when they tried to ambush a police convoy on the border of Awantipura and Pulwama districts in south Kashmir.

The SSP said a pistol, three bullets and two AK-47 magazines were recovered from busted modules possession.
