Budget session to begin as per schedule: Speaker

Jammu, January 09: Though the death of Chief Minister of the state gave rise to uncertainty in political circles but as per reports, there is going to be no change in the conduct of the Budget Session, scheduled to begin on January 18.

The Budget Session will start with an address by Governor NN Vohra. The news has also been confirmed by the speaker of J&K Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta who said that there is going to be no change in the schedule of the Budget session and it will be held as per the provisional calendar issued by the Legislative Assembly.

Also, the Secretary of Legislative Assembly has said that no communication has been provided by the state administration vis-à-vis change in the schedule of the Budget session and preparations have started for its smooth conduct.

The Budget session this year will continue for 52 days with 36 sittings this time. As per the set schedule, the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was to speak for reply to debate on Motion of Thanks to Governor’s Address on January 21.


The budget will be presented by Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu for financial year 2016-17 on January 22. There will be a general discussion on Budget on January 25, 27 and 28 which will end with a reply of the government there to. From Jan 29 to Feb 26, the demands for grant to various departments will be made. Also, the Appropriation Bills would be taken up on February 27. On Feburary 29, there would be Government Business.

On March 1 and 3, the Private Members Resolutions would be taken up while on March 4 and 8, the Private Members Bill will be presented. There would be government business on March 2 and 9, if any.

However, Assembly Secretariat is in consultation with the state government for the reduction of duration of the session as per recent developments but any decision on that is yet to be taken.
