To assist the poor homeless families, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Relief and Rehabilitation, Syed Basharat Bukhari Saturday distributed IAY cheques worth Rs. 54 lakh among 72 families at a function organized at Dak Bungalow, Baramulla.
MLA, Javid Hassan Baig, ADC, ACD Baramulla and other officers were also present during the function.
The 72 beneficiaries who were handed cheques of Rs.75000 each belonged to Wagoora, Sangrama and Sopore Blocks of district Baramulla.
The Minister on the occasion reiterated the determination of the Government towards assisting the poor and vulnerable sections of the society. ‘‘It is our endeavour to see that no family remains homeless in the State and Government under its various schemes and programmes shall extend every type of assistance to these families”, Bukhari said.
While remembering the devastation caused by the 2014-floods, the Minister said that efficient strategy is the needed to prevent such type of devastation from occurring again. “We have to work together towards ensuring that the plans prepared for disaster mitigation are implemented on the ground”, the Minister added.
While appreciating district administration Baramulla for their role during the 2014-floods, the Minister said that administration should remain better prepared and ensure that it is ready to tackle any situation in case of a disaster.
Meanwhile, the Minister directed the district administration to constitute a committee that shall investigate the cause of fire at old Hospital Baramulla and submit the report by 4th August.
