Can doctors be trusted anymore : Infant plastered in wrong leg

Udhampur, January 12: The District Hospital Udhampur is in the news since last evening but not for a good reason. In a case of sheer negligence, a five month old baby was admitted to hospital with a broken left leg but the doctors plastered the right one.

As per the reports in a local daily, a resident of Ritti Village, Sudesh Kumar and his wife Pinki brought their son to the hospital on Saturday and showed him to an orthopaedic surgeon. The doctor after checking advised them to go for an X-ray.

After going through the reports of X-Ray, the doctor concluded that the baby’s left leg is fractured and advised them to get the fractured leg plastered and prescribed some medicines.

Reports claim that the plaster was done by the paramedical staff of the hospital following which baby was handed over to his parents. They took him home and during the night, he started crying bitterly. All the efforts to pacify the kid failed and he was again brought to same hospital.

On investigating the X-Ray report, the doctor found out  that the right leg of the toddler had been plastered instead of the left leg which was fractured. On his orders, the staff removed the plaster from the right leg and plastered the fractured left leg.
