He said, “Human loss is irreparable, no one can bring their love ones back but we tried out level best to provide them all possible support so that they won’t feel alone in their crisis hours”. “As far as Central Govt is concerned, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken the sufferings of the people of Jammu and Kashmir as his own sufferings and extending all possible help, including launching of massive rescue operations, package for relief and rehabilitation, pressing Army, Air force and NDRF in rescuing victims etc without wasting any time besides personally visiting J&K”, he mentioned.
Khanna said that the people of twin border districts have suffered a lot as over hundred people have died, thousands rendered homeless, crops totally destroyed, roads and connecting roads of far flung areas been washed away, means of communication badly affected. He said, “Although the union government is extending every kind of help for relief and rehabilitation, our national and State leadership also tightened their laces and working for their rehabilitation, relief and in this connection various initiatives have been taken including Apadha Rahat Kosh, relief collection programmes, regular visits of unin ministers to access loss etc”.
“Since Rajouri and Poonch are doubly hit by the natural calamity i.e floods and landslides and has caused extensive devastation to the area, Khanna mentioned that Central Government has already been focusing for overall infrastructure development of these twin districts, that includes four lanes connectivity, extension of railway link to Poonch, infrastructural developmental activities, promotion of education, health facilities and others means of basic amenities”
Raising apprehension over the distribution of relief by the State Government, he mentioned that since relief and rehabilitation is a state subject so it’s the duty of State Govt to ensure equitable distribution of relief material in entire J&K but it’s unfortunate that these twin districts are alleged to be ignored by the Government in terms of adequate relief and rehabilitation operations. He lauded the role of army and air force in these areas for undertaking massive rescue operation and also restoring means of communication.
He also asked the party cadre in Rajouri and Poonch to come forward and support the victims in Rajouri-Poonch as what affected people needed in this hour of crisis is an emotional humanitarian approach as well.
Moreover, Khanna also chaired the meetings of party workers and also met senior officials of the District administration at Rajouri and Poonch during his visit.
