The Crime Branch has registered an FIR against a man from Channi Himmat for conning a widow of Rs 44 lakh.
The accused has been identified as Atul Chibber, a resident of Channi Himmat. A written complaint against him was lodged by Babita Jain, who is the wife of late Vinod Kumar Jain.
In her complaint, Babita who is a resident of Bari Brahmana has said her husband was running a manufacturing unit of cotton seed cakes at Mehtpur (Himachal Pradesh) and SIDCO Industrial Complex (Bari Brahmana). He was murdered in 2013.Thereafter, Atul Chibber approached her and convinced her that he could help her in running the industrial unit and she allowed him to look after her business.
After some time, on the pretext of arranging raw material for her cotton seed units and some other investments, he withdrew an amount of Rs 44 lakh through bank transactions and cash. However, not even one rupee was spent on the manufacturing unit and on a contrary he started threatening the victim who approached the police with the matter.
A formal case was registered against Chibber on Friday under Sections 420, 406, 465, 466, 467, 468 and 506 of the Ranbir Penal Code. The police has started its investigation.
