POONCH, SEPTEMBER 06: A deputation of Christian Community of Poonch called on Deputy Chairman J&K Legislative Council, Jahangir Hussain Mir and apprized him about various issues of the community.
While placing their grievances before the Deputy Chairman, the deputationists demanded that posts of Safai Karamcharis in different departments in the district be got reserved for them as they have been doing the same job since decades. They also demanded filling up of vacant posts in the district to overcome on growing unemployment.
They also demanded timely release of wages of Safai Karamchari’s besides land for graveyard at an appropriate location in Poonch town as their old graveyard has been washed away in September 2014 floods.
The Deputy Chairman listened them patiently and briefed about various welfare schemes meant for upliftment of minorities. He asked them to make aware and motivate their community for availing benefits of these welfare schemes of the government.
Jahangir said that efforts are on to have a Minority Commission in the state and he is pursuing the matter with the concerned Union Ministry. He assured deputationists that their all genuine demands will be fulfilled in phased manner.
