City Markets painted red ahead of Christmas
Jammu, December 23: It’s Christmas time in the city and markets are flooded with Xmas items – artificial pine trees, plastic Christmas trees, stars and hangings, lightings, miniature Santa Claus toys, Nativity cribs, Christmas cards and lot more.
Makeshift shops near Maha Lakshmi Temple at Pacca Danga and Moti Bazaar have been painted red ahead of Christmas which falls on December 25. These are flooded with different kinds of Christmas trees and glittering decorations to add warmth to your festivities. Children can be seen thronging the shops with their elders to make purchases.
“Christmas trees are always been the most demanding thing for Christmas. People buy these in all shape and sizes and prices that depends upon the quality and size ranges between Rs 25 to Rs 1500,” said Rohit Sharma, one of the Makeshift shops owner.
“Despite, kids demand for the Santa toys priced between Rs 50 and Rs 300. They also like the stars, bells and other decoratives for Christmas trees,” he added, claiming he had already sold many pieces of Santa toys.
“Since the festival is not limited to just one community. Now-a-days various schools organize activities and celebrate the festivals as one and we are having a good business out of it,” said another stall owner.
Like every year, Santa Claus caps and masks are in great demands that costs just 50 bucks. A variety of Santa costume designs on different materials is also available.
“I bought a Santa Claus dress for my four-year-old son from this store for Rs 500 last year and it will be good for him at the Xmas programme this year too,” said a homemaker Seema Singh.
