The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday cancelled the leaves of its employees except those sanctioned on medical groups or study purposes to “ensure smooth conduct of upcoming municipal and panchayat polls”.
Commissioner/ Secretary of General Administration Department (GAD) Hilal Ahmad has issued an order consequent to the notification of schedule of elections for ULB and Panchayats.
“Leave of any kind sanctioned to government employees (except leave sanctioned on medical grounds or for study purposes) shall stand cancelled forthwith. The concerned employees shall report to their respective places of posting immediately,” said the order.
“All the employees shall remain available at their respective headquarters/places of posting till the conclusion of the elections,” the order added.
“No leave of any kind shall be granted to a government employee except in case of medical emergency till the conclusion of elections”.
The government has also directed that all employees to remain available at their respective headquarters and places of postings till the conclusion of elections.
The ULB polls will be held in four phases from 8 to 16 October. The panchayat elections will be held in nine phases on a non-party basis beginning 17 November. The notification for the first phase of panchayat elections will be issued on 23 October.
More than seven Panchayat Ghars — six in South Kashmir district of Pulwama and Shopian and one in Central Kashmir district of Budgam — have been torched since the election schedule was announced for the ULB and panchyat elections.
