Clashes at Kashmir college over hoisting of tricolour in the premisis

Clashes erupted on Wednesday at Boys Degree College Khanabal in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district after police hoist tricolour during a sports event in college campus.

Reports said that the hoisting of tricolour infuriated the students who objected the move. However, the police officials could not cool the tempers and soon the situation turned ugly, triggering clashes between students and police in the college campus.

U4UVoice has learnt that the unfurling of the tricolor irked students, who stormed the podium and ransacked chairs, canopies and started pelting stones on the police personnel. “Soon, the protesting students, while chanting slogans, sabotaged the event and set the hoardings and other materials lying around ablaze,” witnesses said, adding that a part of the podium was also set on fire.

The source said that the event organized by the state police was yet to start and the students objected against the tricolour being hoisted at the podium. Eyewitnesses told Mirror that intense pro-freedom sloganeering, stone pelting and tear gas shelling is going on currently inside the campus.

Police also fired several tear-gas canisters to disperse the protesting students.
