Srinagar, July 23: Violent protest demonstrations broke out in Srinagar’s Batamaloo area on Saturday. According to local reports a long protest march was taken out by the youth as an outcry to the civilian killings.
In a list of at least 45 civilians killed in clashes over two weeks, two youth belong to Tengpora area of Batamaloo.
Mass protests erupted following the 8 July encounter of militant commander Burhan Wani in Kokernag area of South Kashmir.
A massive rally, which included women as well, was taken out from inner Batamaloo area and it marched towards Batamaloo Bus terminal. The rally was, however, stopped by forces near main chowk and this resulted in clashes with forces which had to resort to firing tear gas shells to control the situation.
The protesters burnt tyres as a mark of protests while some pelted stones on forces. According to local reports, some cops tried pacifying the youth but they didn’t relent and continued the protests.
