SRINAGAR: Security forces on Saturday resorted to teargas shelling in Maisuma locality of Srinagar to foil a joint protest called by separatist groups against the setting up of proposed Sainik and Pandit colonies.
Police and paramilitary forces deployed in and around the locality lobbed teargas shells to disperse protesters who tried to stage a sit-in.
This triggered clashes in the area with youths hurling rocks on the forces.
The protest was also being called to protest the arrest of a local boy.
All the shops and other business establishments were closed and traffic stopped passing through the locality.
